Motorcycles Used: 1 Honda 450x, 2 XR200R, 1 Honda 400 Quad, and 1 YZ250
Type of roads/trails: Pretty much fire roads, although, there are some whoops and sandy sections.
Difficulty: Easy
Ride Description: Took the wife, sister, sisters fiance and a friend out to Cal City for a ride. Went from Cal City, to Husky Monument, up to Jo'berg for fuel, over to Randsburg for lunch and a rest (sister is new to riding) and then back to Cal City. I can't take complete credit for this ride. I know lots of people have done this exact ride, but it was the first time I had done this loop myself. I pieced together a track to follow using Google Earth, parts of a couple of gpx files I found on the web (FOJ site I think) and my FOJ map. Also, it was my first trip using a GPS. I've always just ridden with maps, but got a GPS for Christmas and have been itching to use it. It worked great, although, as you can see from my track, we got "off track" a couple of times (my hardwire/mount kit didn't come in time, and the GPS was in my pocket). I was worried about the quad and the YZ250 being able to make it to Jo'berg for fuel, but it worked out. Quad hit reserve about 10 miles out, we brought fuel for the YZ but I'm pretty sure it would have made it without. |
